Whistler Wines Pop Up
If you’re a wine connoisseur, enjoy sustainably made and carefully crafted wines or just generally love the taste of a good old-fashioned cab sav, than the Whistler Wines pop up is for you.
Whistler Wines history
Hailing from South Australia, Whistler Wines is made up of a family of fourth-generation wine growers dedicated to practising sustainable, organic methods of harvesting grapes while simultaneously creating decadent, full-bodied tasting wine.
Beginning with Josh’s great grandfather Albert Heinrich Pfeiffer, the business has now been passed down to Josh, the current vineyard manager. Josh graduated from Adelaide University with a Bachelor of Oenology in 2007, working for Two Hands in the Barossa Valley as an Assistant Winemaker, before accepting a position at Henschke Wines in Eden Valley in 2009. Josh worked as a winemaker for 5 yeas, before venturing back to Whistler in 2013.
Organic and biodynamic wine making practices
80 years on from the birth of Whistler Wines and 15 hectares later, the vineyard is flourishing with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon, Grenache and Mataro, and Reisling which are all currently organically grown on the Heysen Estate vineyard.
Josh has fully embraced a natural approach to wine making, introducing organic practises to Whistler Wines in August 2013 as well as biodynamic practises in July of this year. From knifing through weeds to using nettle tea in their biodynamic system, Josh ensures to always harvest the fruit at optimum ripeness and makes sure the wines are bottled, free of fining and filtration.
By improving soil health, limiting inputs and ensuring the wine is as natural as possible, Josh has mastered the art of giving back to the vineyard whilst continually expanding Whistler Wine’s range.
